OUT In The OC Tour Series ~ Hotel Menage and Crystal Cove Beach Cottages in the Crystal Cove State Park Historic District

HOTEL MENAGE

Certainly great accommodations are extremely important when traveling, even better when they're also very affordable and convenient to everywhere you'd like to go and see.

Major KUDOS to Hotel Menage for an absolutely fantastic Gay Days Anaheim stay experience from beginning to end.

We arrived early in the day (noonish) and were able to be checked into our room immediately which was terrific because we sure needed to be freshened up before doing anything.

The staff was super friendly and helpful - the valet guy was a major hottie which is always nice and every time we would see him he would smile and say "Hello" which is so rare anymore - usually they're on their cellphone and don't even look at you!

The lobby area and K'ya bar and restaurant are very chic with a "W" type look and feel.

Our room was on the second floor with a really nice view of the pool, hot tub and pool bar and the Disneyland fireworks at night.  The room itself was spacious, sharply done complete with a 42" plasma TV and a VERY comfy bed and pillows.

Hotel Menage shares the same street as the main entrance to Disneyland (it actually borders up to the park), Downtown Disney and Disney's California Adventure Park.  There is a bus service, but we only used it once as it really was not far to walk, only about ten minutes.

The hotel also has "themed" suites (Asian, North American, Africa and European) and meeting rooms (Platinum, Tuscany, Retro-complete with full-on purple shag carpeting, Zen and NYC Loft) available ~ be sure to inquire about these ~ the luxury themed suites and meeting rooms are amazing.

The owner, Richard Ham, is super nice and one evening after a scrumptious dinner at their onsite restaurant,
K'ya (to be highlighted later), he had a property tour arranged for us to see all of these specialty rooms -
was really terrific.

The best feature to us however, which was a complete and welcomed surprise, was that the pool and hot tub was open 24 hours - how LGBT friendly is that!  Loved it!  It was so nice to come back after partying or being at the parks and lounge in the pool and hot tub for awhile before bed.  We dropped hints to Richard the owner, not so subtlety, that his hotel pool area would make a fabulous place for a Gay Days Pool Party, complete with DJ and Go-Go dancer boys... (Reminder-hint hint).  Hopefully, we can be involved in helping make the party a reality next year :-)

He also owns 2 other beautiful properties in Laguna Beach :  Casa Camino (with rooftop dining)
and The Laguna Beach Inn .

Great work Richard and thank you to the entire Hotel Menage staff!  We had an awesome stay and highly recommend your properties to our readers!  Now for an adventure back to a time and era preserved...

Crystal Cove Beach Cottages in the Crystal Cove State Park Historic District
Take a Step Back in Time... And We Are So Not Kidding!

Take a step back in time with a visit to the newly restored Crystal Cove Beach Cottages in the Crystal Cove State Park Historic District!

Whether in an Individual or Dorm-style Cottage, Crystal Cove Beach Cottages offer gorgeous ocean views, charming historic details, and a glimpse of a uniquely Southern Californian beach community from a bygone era.

Located in the heart of Crystal Cove State Park's 3.5 miles of pristine coastline, the Historic District first developed as a South Seas movie set due to its seclusion and tropical aura (Bette Midler's "Beaches" was filmed here-pics below).

The community thrived and became beloved for its relaxed, friendly atmosphere and picturesque landscape,
and in 1979, the Crystal Cove Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Experience the magic of Crystal Cove as it existed from the 1930s to 1950s with a stay in one of 11 Individual or 3 Dorm-style Cottages. Located directly on the beach or overlooking it from a bluff top, each cottage has been painstakingly restored and furnished to recreate Crystal Cove's unique historic beach culture and ambiance.

But this is totally a place to chill and unwind - there are no televisions or phones in the cottages!  Reservations are available year-round (here are all the reservation details and how it works) and you won't believe the rates (because it is a state park) the average rate per Cottage (for four people) is $174 per night!
