ST. LUCIA may not be the most gay-friendly place on Earth, but they love their drunks!
Just days after an emotional interview in which she claimed she was entirely off drugs (but still drinking) and in love with a new man (not her husband, who then filed for divorce), Amy Winehouse was photographed on hands-and-knees at her St. Lucia resort, allegedly stealing drinks from other vacationers after she was cut off.
According to a report in The Sun, the troubled 'Rehab' singer was cut off by the resort staff, which prompted her to swipe drinks from other customers and also attempt to get them to order booze for her. On top of that, The Sun claims Winehouse is often "openly smoking joints by the pool.""We keep catching her crawling past bars, or hiding behind chairs. She grabs guests' drinks and runs off, like a squirrel with a nut," a Sun source says.
Her erratic behavior doesn't only concern the staff, but also other guests at the Caribbean resort."One minute she is very pleasant, saying, 'All right darlin' and chatting to people and having photos taken. The next she is throwing things and swearing her head off," a fellow vacationer said.
The Sun reports that Winehouse's management has hired a beefy bodyguard to keep her in check."She’s like a child craving attention. It's embarrassing. She comes in for dinner barefoot and in her bikini, even though the dress code is smart casual," one guest claims. "Then she will go and sit on her balcony topless playing the guitar when everyone is trying to sleep."The island that helped Amy Winehouse get her groove back—and possibly precipitated her impending divorce from Blake Still Incarcerated—is heaping some rare public praise on the singer for boosting the profile of the exotic locale.
"Any edge that you can get, you hang on to it," St. Lucia's tourism minister, Allen Chastanet, told a local TV station Thursday.
Chastanet said that the media's incessant coverage of the singer, who has been living the tropical life since December, has shown the island (if not necessarily Winehouse) in a positive light.
To show their thanks for the now daily photos of Winehouse smiling with locals, government officials recently sent her a gift basket full of locally sourced products.
While the singer may be an unlikely poster child for the island, St. Lucia has appeared to accomplish what her family, the threat of emphysema and an all too brief stint in rehab could not: get Winehouse cleaned up.
Amy, amy, amy......step away from the liquor!
